Our Story | Tō Mātou Kōrero
Established in 1991
Ōtorohanga Support House Whare Āwhina grew from a shared community vision: to create one welcoming place where people could access support, guidance and care close to home. For over 30 years, we have been a quiet, trusted hub for the Ōtorohanga and Waitomo districts.
Our Mission
Our mission is to enhance the wellbeing of individuals and families within the Ōtorohanga and Waitomo Districts.
Our Values
- Respect: Treating everyone with dignity and non-judgement.
- Compassion: Offering a warm, empathetic approach to all who enter our doors.
- Community: Rooted in the local area, working together for collective wellbeing.
- Empowerment: Helping people discover their own strengths and solutions.
- Integrity: Maintaining trust, confidentiality, and honesty in all we do.
- Accessibility: Ensuring our services are welcoming and available to everyone.
Our Role in the Community
We proudly serve the Ōtorohanga and Waitomo districts, providing a central place where anyone can come for support. We are not a clinic, but a comfortable, earthy space where the kettle is always on, and a listening ear is always available.
